I was born in Paris, France and attended school in Germany, Spain and the U.K., ending up with degrees in modern languages and international business. A couple of years after college, I set out on a two-year trip around the world, eventually settling in Japan, where I became a permanent resident. I spent five years+ in Tokyo, simultaneously teaching at Sophia University and pursuing my research on the Japanese sport/art of Sumo, which culminated in the publication of my first book.

I immigrated to the United States in 1982 and founded Graphie Int'l, Inc. — a small business which, over the years, has allowed me to exercise my creativity in numerous directions as I stayed ahead of shifting trends in software publishing, product acquisition, multimedia production, and the internet, eventually growing a medium-size business which employed 50+ people over the years. I like to think that I touched the lives of most of my staff in a positive manner by allowing them to grow as I grew. In the late nineties, dwindling business forced me to progressively let people go and permanently refocus on a full-time career as a fine-art photographer and book publisher.

I am the author of four highly-praised books: Land of the Canyons and three volumes of the Photographing the Southwest series. I am the recipient of two Benjamin Franklin Awards (Best Travel Book 2007, 2009) for books I have published and over sixty thousand photography enthusiasts from around the world enjoy my books and are inspired by my images. The success of the series provided me with a base to expand my catalogue with new authors and other U.S. States published under my imprint.

Despite my busy schedule managing and expanding my publishing activity, I continue to dedicate a lot of time, focus, and passion to my photography and my travels around the world. This allows me to continually refine my production and achieve excellence in my main area of expertise: landscapes. My work ranges from starkly minimalist compositions to complex abstracts, my years in Japan having had a profound influence on my sense of esthetics and my vision of form and color. This is reflected in my style, which is more akin to painting than photography with its combination of bold colors, unique textures and a striking sense of depth.

As of this writing, I am a veteran of over 200 arts festival over the past ten years, although I'm now limiting my appearances to Southern California. In doing so I have put the emphasis on size and quality: I am known for spectacular art festival displays using up to four spaces, displaying very large canvas prints that I photograph around the world with high-quality equipment and produce in my own studio. Over the years, I have gained the respect of my peers and show promoters alike; I'm proud to have served for the past four years on the jury of the prestigious La Quinta Arts Festival, rated #1 best art festival in the country.
